Hi Ken

Some of the list may realise we live in the same area, I'll have to
make a trip over to see you.

I have been involved with fitting a genset at a classroom near you,
several years ago, this was a lister-petter diesel but we had heat
recovery from the exhaust and coolant, I say had because it was stolen
recently.

When I did the sums for an inverter and battery bank it did not look
too good to me using a new battery (5 years guarantee, 8 years
probable minimum life). Subsequently a friend acquired a milk float
with a good set of cells so that may be an option. Of course if you
can factor in an element of solar PV or wind generation then the
battery storage makes better sense.
