There has been little switchgrass cultivar assessment in western Canada, In
North Dakota, sunburst seems the most reliable. Dakota and ND-3743 are
lower yielding but likely more hardy in more northern areas. See Casler and
Boe 2003, Cultivar x environment interactions on switchgrass, crop sci
43:2226-2233
In Quebec and Ontario, cave in rock seems the most reliable variety with
commercial seed available.
I would suggest growers in drier and cooler areas of western Canada could
also plant prairie sandreed. It has a more northerly native range and is
more drought tolerant.

Dear Roger and List,
Any idea what species of switchgrass Canada is growing, for example
cave-in-rock, shelter etc?
