I think we should move this over to the bioconversion listserve.
Yes this is a promising fuel resource with a high energy content. This fuel
can likely burn well in most commercial boilers in a pelletized form. They
can also burn in gasifier pellet stoves that we have been testing with
various fuels. It will likely have problems in conventional stoves unless it
is blended with high quality wood pellets.

Would some/one of you with pellet stoves try pelletizing, hammermilling, etc
waxed cardboard to see how it works in your pellet stove, remembering that
it is a very potent fuel. Hotlog from Ca. and Enviro-Log from Ga., are
4"x4"X10" of 100% recycled waxed cardboard boxes, which most produce is
trucked in. Their "logs" are just pressed--can read the print on the boxes.
They claim that over 90% of the 650,000 tons a year, used in this country,
go to landfills. Since most of us, except Peter, feed from supermarkets,
who are paying to have their waxed boxes landfilled, they should be eager to
offer you a regular supply.
For 3 years I picked up 10 to 12 barrels a day of food waste from Winona's
largest supermarket, because it saved them a lot and the owner, Erickson,
from Hudson Wi. insisted that they recycle. They also payed me to take
waxed boxes, so I had a stack 140' long, by 25' wide by 12' high, of
flattened waxed boxes, which the County ordered me to burn or bury. We put
them through the 650 hp tub grinder, when we ground brush and they were
composted, which was a waste of powerful fuel..
The foodwaste pickup ended when Erickson sold to Nash Finch. Now all the
"heavy" food waste, plus waxed boxes, from the Super Wal-Mart, etc., in
Winona, Mn. goes 75 miles to a landfill in Wi.. I wanted those that come to
my compost site, to see all that supermarkets throw out. It is very
disturbing, to most, to see perfectly good food being dumped; however, there
is no reason that supermarkets or fruit markets should have any excuse not
to save money and the environment, tadah, by generously donating waxed boxes
to your experiment. And if you come up with a system, they'll be selling
the the pelletizer, stoves and waxed boxes at Wal-Mart. Dick
