I'm not sure about the pith itself, but the starch processes very
quickly in a digester, as Dr. Karve has show with his award winning
digester design at ARTI. It might be better to extract the starch and
digest that alone and gasify the pith. Depends on how woody the pith is
and how easily it breaks down, I guess.
