[Digestion] Starch & sugar fueled digesters

Greetings one and all.  I am new to the list - looks like a useful  
community to be a part of.

My name is Marcel, I live in Guernsey in the Channel Islands, UK.   
I've spent some time in Africa and wish to develop knowledge and  
experience of biogas (and other development technologies) for use  
there and in other places.

I've just come across the work of the ARTI (Appropriate Rural  
Technology Institute) of Pune, Maharashtra, India.  There, Dr Anand  
Karve has been leading research into using starch and sugar fuels  
instead of dung as fuel in a biogas digester.  It looks very, very  
impressive - they're claiming it to be 800 times (x) more efficient  
than dung fuel.

I wondered if you folks had come across this and what you make of it??
