Methane, in its pure form may explode if handled without care, but biogas,
produced in a small domestic digester, does not explode. When it is being
produced, it is in a vessel without oxygen, therefore it cannot combust.
When it is led to a burner, the methane part of the biogas burns in the
burner. There is no scope for it to explode while burning in a burner. If
there is a leak, or if the burner gets extinguished due to some reason and
the gas cock is left open, the gas may leak into the kitchen. But even then,
methane is lighter than air and instead of accumulating on the floor of the
kitchen, it rises up and escapes out of the kitchen through a window or
through the roof tiles. LPG is more prone to exploding than biogas.
