The bones as such are not biodegradable. However if the bones are crushed
ad boiled in water for about 15 minutes you will get what is known as glue
water . This glue water can be mixed with other wastes which can be degraded
to produce biogas. This type of plant has been designed and installed at one
slaughter house in India.

Anyone

Has anyone had any experience with processing animal bones as part of
the AD process feed stream. We have read that it can be
done however there is not much information on it.

We are looking at adding crushed animal bones to a biogas plant however
we are not convinced that the additional cost would justify
the expense in methane yield, and we are not sure how much the bone
would degrade and what solids would be left.

The rest of the stream is made up of grass, manure, food waste and
domestic waste
