[Digestion] Biogas bus engines

Hi Warren,

The Jenbacher plug you are talking about is the P7, made by Jenbacher, they
also have a P4 which is about the same price without the pre-combustion
shroud on the end. Both plugs will last 8000+ hrs if the correct maintenance
is done on them. Their engines are high compression engines, so they have
made their own plug to suit. Most other large biogas engines run with a
standard J type plug that you can buy for $50 - $80 that is basically a
throw away item.
It's amazing how much Jenbacher make world wide from sparkplugs alone . .

Timing is important when converting from fuel to biogas, as the combustion
temperature of the biogas is generally greater, so adjusting the timing will
give you a better firing engine and reduced temperatures.

I am attempting to learn more about the biogas bus
engines being used in other countries. We are planning
to convert a diesel bus over to a CNG engine and run
100% biogas from our local municipal wastewater
facility.

At our local wastewater plant they are using a GE
Jenbacher genset with special spark plugs---also made
by Jenbacher at $600 US each---that have a
precombustion chamber on the ends.

I am assuming a regular CNG engine will work with
variable timing?
