Hi frank.
The problem is not the floating manure, the problem is the formation of the foam.
This foam gets solid along the time, and stop the anaerobic digestion, because separate the liquid phase to the gaseus phase.
This solid foam can be about 20cm width han in some cases you need a hammer to destroy it.
The way to evitate the formation f this solid foam is with agitation or with a good manure:water rate mixing.
I work with 1:3 rate for tubular biodigesters. Some people use 1:2.
