[Digestion] Bio methane economy?

Agriculture and related activities in India generate annually about 800
million tons of organic biodegradable waste. Being lignocellulosic, it would
have to be treated in a biphasic digester, but it is my estimate that it
would yield about 80 million tons of methane, satisfying practically the
entire current demand of automotive fuel in India. Since we would be using
existing waste material, no extra land would be required to grow any fuel
crop. What we lack is the political will to do it. In the decade of 1960 to
1970 we had politicians who decided that the country should become
self-sufficient in food grains. They framed appropriate policies, devised
appropriate means and achieved what they wanted to do. But the present bunch
of politicians is so corrupt that in spite of the biogas technology being
indigenously available, they prefer to import petroleum and natural gas, so
that they get their commission under the table.
Yours
