[Digestion] Bio methane economy?

Cezar makes a good point in relation to the use of biomass crops to produce
fuels - whatever conversion route is used.

Of course, feeding biomass crops to an AD plant CAN make economic and
practical sense under certain regulatory regimes such as:
a) the EU's Common Agricultural Policy, in which farmers are limited as to
how much they can produce, so have "spare" land - but that's a mad way to
run a planet!
b) in some EU countries, this effect of the CAP is supported by high
purchase prices for electricity, designed to encourage the development of
renewable energy - which at least isn't mad!!

However, AD is better used to digest wastes (crop wastes, manures) or
unsaleable crop surpluses. Such use supports food production, rather than
competing with it.
