[Gasification] Dynomometer

Hi Drew and List,
I have in fact been spoilt for dynamometers over the last few months.
My home made one uses a 6kW (187V dc @31A) permanent magnet dc servo motor -
the sort used to drive the spindles of CNC machines. I acquire 4 of these
free, back in 1997 and have been waiting for a suitable application.
The motor is tooth belt driven off the Lister, so that it is permanently
connected. It spins at 1200rpm when the Lister is at full speed or 650rpm.
The output voltage is proportional to the speed, and at 36V it turns the
Lister over at about 180rpm.
My second dyno is one that I acquired from the engineering department at
Cambridge University. They were trying to scrap ito to landfill and so I got
the whole lot, including the control cabinet, rev counter etc. This will
be put onto a suitable frame and used as a permanent facility for testing
the Lister on various wood gas dual fuel regimes.
My battery bank is 10 off, 110Ah Trojan batteries, that were once used in
an EV application and have seen better days.
Datalogging is one of my pet subjects/pastimes, and later this year I hope
to have a multi-channel datalogger with a wireless link back to my PC.
I have spent two years accumulating equipment to set up a complete slow
speed diesel engine test lab. I am focussing on the Lister CS, mainly
because of it's robustness, forgiving nature and the fact that you can
obtain them here for very little money. They are also still being
manufactured in India, so any of my findings can be reproduced using the
Indian engines and hopefully will serve their local applications.
