To all,
Free very high quality technical reference/self study pdf books are
available online for basic technologies related to "Gasification".
1. Basic "Shop" techniques.
http://shopdawg.com/images/handtools.pdf
How to use hammers, hacksaws, files and vises.
2. US Navy "Technical Training" Courses. The "EDTRA" correspondance
courses. http://shopdawg.com/navman.htm
The "basic tools" pdf is a great reference for measuring and handtools of
all kinds. The two steel working volumes are also very germaine. "Two
volume course on steel working and fabrication including cutting and various
methods of welding." The other courses available here may be of use, too.
3. Basic Engineering Subjects.

The Department of Energy "Fundamentals Handbooks" are available there.
These were written primarily for reactor operators, but all contain
extensive generic information:
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Classical Physics (142 pages)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Electrical Science (4 separate volumes, 4
separate pdf files)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, and Fluid Flow
(three volumes)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Instrumentation and Control (two volumes)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Chemistry (two volumes)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Engineering Symbology, Prints, and Drawings
(two volumes)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Material Science, (two volumes)
--- DOE Fundamentals Handbook, Mechanical Science (two volumes)
The US Government spent million$ developing these training courses and
manuals. I suggest trying these for subject matter content before paying
$100s for what could easily be inferior or merely equivalent material.
Best Wishes,
Mark
