I have tried this and successfully made some "turds" with sawdust,
ground wheat and glycerol from bio diesel manufacture. They did set
quite well but not hard.
If you think of it when glycerol is used in icing it is to soften and
plasticise the icing, which otherwise would set rock hard.
I think it would be useful to experiment with glycerol in the lower
pressure agricultural feed type ring pelleters because these often
require both binder and lubricant (in fact the one I am familiar with
reducing the lubricant is a means of increasing pressure in the die).
I still hope for some hands on experience with one of these.
I think glycerol and starch from food waste would be a good starting
point, especially if mixed in hot, say 90C.
This is more topical for bioconversion so I have CCd it there also.
