Tom and all,

I usually agree with Tom Reed, but this time I must comment that his message
mixes statements appropriate for "gasifiers for IC engines" with statements
appropriate for "gasifiers for thermal output."

Tom's Campstove is for thermal, and his large unit is for electricity.
He says
"Tars are the Achilles Heel of gasifiers. ...... If a gasifier manufacturer
claims that he can gasify a wide variety of fuels, run the other way."

Both are comments for the power producers, and are incorrect for the heat
producers. Tars are not a problem if you burn them while hot, and not
in an IC
engine. And really we can burn many many different fuels in true
gasifiers for
the heat production. I expect to see more of this tar burning and diverse
fuels at the China conference this month about gasifiers for thermal
applications in cottage industries. I will be showing a much improved version
of the thermal gasifier (updraft, not T-LUD) that I had at ETHOS last
January. I will also take it to Stove Camp. By September I hope to
have enough written
description and pictures for people to make their own copies of my unit.

So, for the newcommers to gasifiers, just be sure that you reading the right
advice for the different types of gasifiers.
