[Gasification] Flare Design for Wood Gas.

Dear List

I have started up a small gasifier, about 10 M^3/hr gas production rate,
with the gas discharging out the end of a horizontal 1" diameter pipe.

When I hold a blowtorch to the gas flow, it will not ignite.

Would anyone have a URL, or suggestions, for the design and construction of
a simple flare stack burner?

Visual Estimation of Tar Content of Wood Gas:

The gas does have "smoke" in it. Is there any simple way to estimate the tar
content of wood gas visually? Basically, I would like to get a simple
indication that the gas contained 5 ppm, 50 ppm, 500 ppm, 5,000 ppm or
50,000 ppm tar content.

Bacharach Smoke Spot Tester:

Has anyone "calibrated" a Bacharach Smoke Spot Tester so that the smoke spot
can be used to indicate the approximate ppm tar content in wood gas?

Thanks very much.

Kevin
