Dear Paul, HSM and All:

I hope Paul will visit the gasification workshop in China and report
back to all of us who can't be there on the real progress in
gasification. Thanks for the heads-up, below.

I know Prof. Mukunda very well and have been to his Combustion,
Gasification, Pyrolysis lab three times. Please give him my regards
and tell him I'm still working > hrs/day on gasification, especially our
80 kW "minigrid" gasifier for 4 villages along the Amazon. Make sure he
knows that his "char air" was an important part of our thinking in the
new system. We sell his book on gasification, "Biomass to Energy" on
our website.

Another giant of gasification in India is Prof. P. P. Parikh who has
just retired from running the gasifier engine lab at IIT Bombay. I hope
she might join our gasification network and give us the results of her
many tests and theses.

I was very jealous of the adequate funding and staffing that Profs
Mukunda and Parikh enjoyed relative to what I had at our National
Renewable Energy Lab. All the best equipment and lots of technicians
and engineers. India was and is serious about alternate fuels. The US
has had the money and the brains, but not the need - so far. India has
the need, the brains and the money and will probably be far ahead of us.

There is also a serious comitment to gasification in China where I have
lectured.

I recommend that all members of the gasification group should read
Mukunda's biographical sketch at

I hope Prof. Parikh will wish to write a similar summary.

Yours truly, TOM REED MODERATOR

Tom,

Have you seen this?

Do you know Dr. Makunda? He will be at the gasification workshop in
China, that
I am trying to attend, late July.

Also, cousin Bob mentioned a family reunion during early August (like 2 to 6
Aug??). Will you please come to Illinois and also have a serious visit
with me
and my partner about our gasification advances?

Paul
