[Gasification] Rice Husk Ash for Cement

Dear Jeff and Ananda,

I used to have several books on low cost building technologies that
discussed this process, alas they and I are on different continents these
days. I believe Volunteers In Technical Assistance (VITA), ITDG and the
Swiss technical service all had publications that touched on the subject.
Lund University in Sweden also has an excellent department on low cost
building technologies that puts out very useful bulletins and I'm sure they
have covered this also...

good luck,

Robert

Subject: [Gasification] Rice Husk Ash for Cement

I re-posted the below e-mail under this new subject. The below email is from
Ananda Weerakkody. Hope someone can help.

Dear friends,
Can some body please advise me on the following matter.

I have done heat generation using Rice Husk. Also I have seen large scale
Power generation through rice husk. Most of the ash generated is a waste,
good only for land-fil. But very few places like in Malaysia produce rise
husk ash which can be used as additive in Cement production. I asked some
experts about this and they too did not know details.
One day I saw the reason for this, in one conversation in this forum. It
said the ash made under 800 degrees Centigrade contains Silica in unmelted
form and that can be used instead of PFA (Pulverised Fuel Ash) in cement
making. In some places people already mix rise husk ash in making Hollow
Cement Blocks. Thereby reducing the cost of production.
But what I know is around 700-800 degrees Centigrade Rice husk is still in
Carbonised form not turned to ash completely.
May some body please advice me as to how to make Rice Husk Ash with Silica
in unmelted form? This would be a great help.
I am a Civil Engineer and QA adviser engaged in rural development, helping
poor communities in Philippines and SriLanka on voluntary basis.
Thank you,
Ananda
