To Denny and All,

>>When people realize that cars will be competing for farmland for basic
>>food survival and costs of food, perhaps the ethanol industry will find
>>itself less full of hype and support.<<

And how will the affected people enforce this against the wishes of the
ethanol industry, supported by the US Federal Government? I haven't
noticed that pump prices are interfering with Exxon's ability to do what
it's doing, despite the great unpopularity of $3/gallon unleaded.

>>Do we kill poor people because we "need" our SUVs to supplement inadequate
>>egos.<<

I used to be in the "muscle end" of our glorious imperial imported oil
policy. Units that were part of US Central Command. I think this will
continue until it becomes logistically impossible to do it over oil.
Afterwards other reasons will probably be found to kill poor people.
Competition for control of productive land areas again, most likely.
Territorial conquest went out of fashion with the maturity of the Oil Age,
circa 1919. As the Oil Age goes away I suspect territorial conquest will
come back into fashion again.

Want a real time example of how intransigently opposite people can be? Just
restart the Global Warming discussion here on "Gasification". We had one
last month and the month before. Opinion runs from it isn't happening to it
doesn't matter to it will kill all life on earth. Tens of thousands of
words were written, but not one indicating anyone changed their mind in the
least.

No all! STOP EVERYONE!!! It was a purely hypothetical illustration. You
are right and I agree with you, no matter who you are.

Best Wishes,

Mark
