Consider the chance that we have an American election where the winner 
is not completely owned by the wealthiest 3%.
The new president would need a diversion to keep the ruling party at 
bay. Something big, like a WAR!
The new President could declare a war on "fossil energy dependence". 
Maybe even consider the findings of the current government and declare 
war on carbon emissions. After all a direct threat to our children lives 
must be as important as a threat to the investments of the current 
ruling political base.
In the time and with the money spent on the current war we could adapt, 
build and deploy geothermal heat, geothermal electric and geothermal 
hydrogen production and eliminate burning of fossil fuels for heat, 
transportation and electricity.
The president could declare that a whole generation shall be trained as 
geothermal, solar, wind and zero emission scientists, with no child left 
behind!
In times of war the president can order Bill Gates and Avista to deploy 
fuel cells or have them nationalized for the war effort. As we have seen 
that presidential powers allow - in time of war - all kinds of fun 
stuff. Our new president could pull that stuff as well. Like ordering 
the automobile makers to make hydrogen-fuel-cell-electric automobiles.
Anyone who stood in the way could be arrested for helping the terrorists 
who "hate our children" and want to force us into "fossil energy 
dependence".
Geeze it is heady aint it?!!!
The president could even order the government to set up some way for 
each American to pay into a federal pool every paycheck, based on the 
energy they use, and force the other parts of the government to 
subsidize non-combustion deployment world wide, instead of war and arms 
and all that stuff we dont need if we dont have to protect those 
offshore oil investments.
A whole new economy would develop based on zero actual emissions, Z-fuels!
America would clean up - pardon the pun - in the carbon trade and a huge 
new employment sector would open up around the globe for the American 
kids who cut their iPods on Z-fuels.
The president would become a hero for saving a whole generation from 
underemployment, cutting carbon emissions and making the world a better 
and safer place for the children!!!!!

Of course there would be a good deal of fighting over the spare change 
left over.
