My free piston engine would be an internal combustion or steam
engine and would be used in buildings for cogeneration. I have a prototype
started. My problem is age and lack of support. The free piston engine could
replace ordinary engines in many applications. I could also use it to great
advantage in cars. It is interesting to note that the stirling free piston
engines that work off solar could also be used for gasification
cogeneration. However there are no well defined answers. Peter's Listers may
be the best solution. In any case we must develop and put many new devices
into production.
One of the things that is unreal to me is the emphasis on cars. A
one kilowatt fuel cell in a house, fueled by natural gas could save nearly
as much energy as a 30 kw fuel cell in a car.
The best energy machine is an apartment house or large general
purpose building. A cluster of them could eliminate commuting. I have ben
trying to get an Ecomindium project started here. I may try to apply to a
foundation for money to build one. The needs of the building would focus
development on energy conserving and alternate energy devices. Certainly a
Lister fed by a gasifier would be important.
So far I have been unsuccesful in finding a publisher for my book.
One firm wanted $20,000 to publish the book. Certainly the book is important
because it focuses on the methods of sustainability. It seems however to be
invisible to most people because of the house and car society culture.
