Gero,
As you know Frank Schmitt builds engine-generator CHP sets in Germany. We
have one of his 300 kWe CHP units for woodgas in the US. See
http://www.schmitt-enertec.com/cogeneration/home.htm I think Frank has been
supplying or servicing the Xylowatt SA (Mercedes) engines in Belgium. He
recently supplied natural gas units to the US through a local distributor.
He puts together a nice CHP package.
Frank told me that when he opened up and inspected your engines (with Gus)
in South Africa after long service he was very impressed by how clean they
were.

Dear Tom,
Many thanks for your mail!
Yes, I agree with you and the importance to speak the same language. Gus
used to say: for all intents and purposes, our gas is tar free. I prefer
to call it just tar free, because our CSIR tested and certified gas (this
was done for ESKOM in April 2000) only contains 0,002g / Nm³ particulates
and max 0,012g / Nm³ tar-like compounds. This presents a total of max 0,014g
/ Nm³ impurities and is still considered by others as absolutely
negligible.
By the way, NO TAR refers to our raw gas and the filtered gas, because the
tar gets cracked in the hearth of the gasifier (at ±1,500ºC).
I had similar questions from Tom Miles on 10 Nov and forwarded the answers
to him today. Both, our prices and said answers are attached hereto.
With kind Biomass Energy regards,
Gero

Dear Gero:
I was a good friend and colleague of Gus and visited his house several
times.
It is important to speak the same language. What is the tar content of your
raw gas? Filtered Gas? Particulate content?
Congratulations on all of your installations. I didn't find your attachment
about prices etc. Please send again...
Yours truly,
