Thanks for the clarification Doug, I also have had an offlist e-mail
in reply to my posting, saying that the original process being
discussed became exothermic above 180C.

As the citric acid catalyses the reaction then the only reagents are
the biomass an water, given that the only outputs are carbon and water
the only source for this energy would appear to be the slight
imbalance of hydrogen in the phenol group of lignin, or have I missed
something?
