Ian, and list members,
your Idea isn't flakey, but I think it's been thought of.... (I could be
wrong).
I will point you in this direction though...
It appears that list members are divided on output gas types.
One group is simply "gasifiers" make it work, and fix the output with
filters, scrubbers, and cyclones, etc.
The other group, is "design", re-hash the design, trial and error, design
again, get the gas output as clean as possible before any other downstream
treatments.
I would have to say I fall into the latter group, I have now personally
designed, modified, and re-designed over 7 units, personally funded the
construction, personally welded, etc. those units, and have spent 100's if
not 1000's of hours on this, and you know what ?? I'd do it all again if I
had to..
I will add, that a handful of people on this list, and others, have given
me "one on one" assistance in understanding the process's involved, and a
couple have "spoon feed" me on hearth and throat issues.
This is a wonderful method of energy conversion, and I for one, will most
likely be involved in it for the rest of my life....

Subject: [Gasification] Tar on inlet valves
Hi
If the tar residue that builds up in the vacuum of the inlet manifold of
engines running on producer gas was subject to the heat of exhaust gas,
would it burn away or turn to something harder and even more of a problem.
I got to thinking about this and wondered if possible to have a 'cleaning'
mode for the engine where some of the hot exhaust gas was recycled into the
inlet chamber, mixed with sufficient 'new' gas to keep the engine spinning
whilst it was 'cleaning'. I guess you would need to protect the inlet from
actual flame but that is doable with a fine screen.
Prolly just a flakey idea, but then again some flakey ideas have hidden
legs and can run. Maybe its been tried before. Maybe it simply wouldn't
work for factors I have missed. Who knows?
Ian
