Greetings list members,

Ian, In direct response to your question on filters/scrubbers:

Filters can be simple paper elements (after cooling of the gas), to complex
electrostatic units, and anywhere in-between.

Doug has been one of my mentors ( thank you again Doug) and I whole
heartedly agree with his recommendation of "Wood gas as an engine fuel" at
the FAO website:
http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/T0512E/T0512e00.htm

(watch for word wrap on the above)

This is one of the most informative books available free on the internet.

There are also many, many hardcover books that get into much detail, and I
also would suggest
http://www.woodgas.com Tom Reeds website.

Anyhow, getting back to filters, think of these:

air filter in your car, furnace filter in your home, lint screen in your
dryer, outlet filter on your central vacuum, oil filter on your car,
screen filter on your "in window" air conditioner, mesh filter on your
"range hood". These are simple examples of filters, most of which would NOT
live very long in a hot gas environment.

Scrubbers:

fine mist of cold water being sprayed inside the gas pipe, (like the water
coming out of a self wash, car wash wand). some use water lift plates (like
humidifiers) to attempt the same. Others pass the gas through a liquid under
pressure (as to force the gas to move through the liquid).

I hope these are some examples you can use...
