Most pellet stoves use a small electric element over which air is
sucked to ignites the pellets, it is very similar to an electric hair
dryer. One of the downdraught log gasifiers I "look after" has one
that pressurises the hopper, on a timer so it starts up a preloaded
batch of logs in the morning to pre warm the house. The lady of the
house then reloads it in the afternoon ready for the next day.
