[Gasification] Another day at the track

Dear Greg,
The arrow of time seems to be irreversible. As a corollary to the
accumulation of entropy there also exists the probability that 'you can't go
home again'.
It's unlikely that we will solve the problems of sustainability by reverting
to simpler modes of existence. We've long-since made our deal with the devil
and now we are forced to live with the consequences. Simply hoping that
science will bail us out seems hopeless.
Was it Nietzsche who stated that without hope there is revolution?

Dear Andy and list members,
Andy, I would almost think, "Forced Forgetfulness", as in, those that print
encyclopedias forget 100's if not 1000's of facts when compiling them (even
though I think they have dropped off the face of the earth, and they too
have gone the same "forced forgot"), as all my grandchildren have no clue as
to what they (encyclopedia's) are, and they are shocked to find out all this
cool stuff that the teachers are not teaching......
Some other examples...
Math can be done in ones own head, and a calculator is the easy way out...
Proper use, storage, and exchange of real money (dollars, change, etc.)...
Driving a car is not simply get in and go, there things it needs on a
regular basis, other than fuel....
Why there is a lever, very close to the steering wheel, and yes, it does
give others an idea of what you will do next....
Setting the house thermostat to 35c because you are cold, is not energy, OR
pocketbook wise....
Why cell phones are on a 3 or 5 year contract that you MUST pay, even if you
loose the phone.....
I'll stop ranting here, I think the refresher course should be spent on the
young, not us "old people"....

Today, while testing some modifications, I met a fellow that knew what that
thing was on the back of my truck. he had just returned from Sweeden,
visiting family. He said his cousin has a Volvo there that runs on
birch-hackwood. He saw it run! The only other guy I know who has ever seen a
gasifier run had duties in Germany in 1945. He used to ride back and forth
to town to visit his girlfriend in her dad's car. He does'nt remember much,
except she was pretty, and it always exploded when her dad added fuel. I
suspect he knew how to make it go boom just to add to the festivities.
How come so few have seen a real gasifier? The truth is they are not easy
to operate, and liquid fuel is still quite cheap (for what it does). Schools
don't teach about how people once upon a time, overcame not having liquid
fuels they once had.
