Peter,

Please don't start getting philosophical on us. It's not petrol that is
imploding us; it's our insatiable need for energy.

What was your winter heating bill? Compare that to my sister who lives in N.
Minnesota.

Some Listers are interested in energy independence. I (and hopefully,
others) are interested in transformational technologies that will not
obligate our relocation to Belize (yes, I've spent time there; I perspired a
lot).

Efficient refrigeration is a challenge in a warm climate; cost-effective
space heating is a challenge in a cold one. Energy efficiency is a common
challenge.

By the way: I have a new idea that will give 1.5W of output for every 1.0W
of input. Please send cash, checks or money-orders.

My Jeff -- that certainly is a low blow -- what are the cows to do now --

The cows do not know to conserve -- and conservation would save our
collective day.

One line I read in a paper I crossed when I did that fast research on energy
efficient refrigeration.

It went something like this:

If the people in the US started using refrigeration in an energy efficient
manner -- yet still have all the cold water/drinks they needs -- frozen
meats - -etc -- the saving would be great enough that every nuclear power
plant on earth could be shut down. There would no longer be a need for that
power.

This from a "Green" oriented list. I would advise keeping the nukes rolling
-- and saving the crude oil -- 

It is the addiction to oil that is destroying this planet -- nothing else
-- nothing less.

We well deserve what will be coming down on "most" of us.
