[Gasification] Something Might be Wrong (OT??)

Jeff,

A place where I am doing some work uses "ice banks". They have a need for
chilled glycol for, say, 10-h a day. They run a small refer system more or
less continuously and expand the refrigerant in a network of copper tubes
immersed in water. In close proximity is another network of tubes through
which a glycol mixture is re-circulated.

When no heat is being dumped into the system from the process that requires
refrigeration (in this case an egg pasteurizing system), ice is formed in
the reservoir. The ice is consumed when the process is operating and adds
virtual capacity to the refer system. In this way a much smaller refer
system can be specified, resulting in lower capital costs, lower demand
charges for electrical power and a bit of safety margin should the refer
fail while there is still remaining ice.

This is a frequently used approach.

Mark

My grand father and Dad told/tell stories about how they would, in the
winter time, go down to the creek or pond and cut ice out. This would be
stored through the year till next winter, sawdust. This ice would be used
to keep their food Also how they stored potatoes etc in the ground over
winter (stay fresher than in a fridge).

I have a book that shows how to make these ice freezers (or maybe it's a
fridge?).

Hey, now that's working with nature.

OK, it will not work where Peter lives.

Mark, the check is in the mail!
