We discussed that on this list a while ago -- year or more -- after I came
across a Russian engineering paper where they were doing exactly this for
large apartment buildings -- on the roofs -- using natural gas for fueling
the cats -- and ORC to make the power.
All waste heat was used for thermal purposes.
Over all efficiencies very high -- and maintenance -- no attendant -- free
operation.
And a 30 or more year life expectancy.
It certainly adds new dimensions to what could be done with bio methane.
And we questioned if gasifier product could also be a fuel for a cat --
The problem for us little folks is getting Mr. Good-turbo-extractor!
The big deal now is they direct couple turbo extractors whizzing along of
50,000 RPM and more with really high tech PM magnet dynamos --
That boosted over all electric power extraction percentages by quite a bit.
Sure -- there are plenty of ongoing problem solving in regards to
conserving energy -- but not in the major Western Industrialized nations.
As we note -- they have managed to convince most of their citizens - -there
really is no problem.
Thus those people see no real need to hurry and make plans.
Everyone is to comfortable having a good time pigging out on energy to have
to stop and do some planning -- then do the work involved to realize plans.
May the better planners survive --
Much easier to call it chicken little complex -- then sit back -- plan
nothing -- do nothing.
Right all you fat assed living in modern nations of mankind dudes!!
Denial and procrastination rule --- not clear observation and realistic
though processes -- and especially not planning for anything -- and very
especially -- planning for something "long-term"
so if we have enough oil to continue being energy gluttons for another
thousand years -- what is the problem??
Under such mental habits -- Die off -- eventually -- is thus a "given" --
especially when any kind of change comes as a major surprise -- and panic
(a very natural event among humans -- one of our specie's major failings)
develops.
Bee can plan for a winter and put up food at an instinctual level.
Humans -- being much more sophisticated life forms can use intelligent
observations to guide for future -- then plan for survival.
Well -- that was before the modern man arrived.
As Einstein once put it -- the WWIV will be fought with sticks and stones.
But I seriously doubt there will be peoples form the Western Industrialized
nations doing any fighting should such a war occur -- even if they do
survive their self imposed die-off wish (\Rapture anyone??) -- they be to
lazy and out of shape -- for the most part -- to dig up stones or chop good
sticks.
Hell -- they probably mostly don't know how to dig -- period -- never mind
chop!!
They do know how to play the politically correct grants game -- and con out
a living!!
Of course all of those kind of people must stay totally blind to realities.
you do not panic if you have a plan.
But when large segments of humanity refuse to do any real planning -- you
just know one mother of a panic will come.
What caused the dinosaur era to die-off into extinction -- for so many
species -- was that they became to over specialized.
Dependence on "cheap-energy" -- no matter from which source -- is -- in the
long term -- to over specialized.
It is not about the sky falling down -- it is about being a grass hopper
and not believing that winters always come around.
