I don't think it is being presented as logical in that respect, just  
for quarterly results for the corporations, those amoral immortals  
that can fight on both sides of a war and win.  For precedents of  
illogical behaviour leading to societal collapse, you could go ponder  
the Mayan ruins in your neighborhood.
