[Gasification] new method to keep a flare lit

many of us have played around with various ways to keep a woodgas
flare lit. a straight pipe opening usually will not stay lit. the
combination of low energy density, and slow flame front propagation
combine to make woodgas hard to flare at times.

the best solutions i've had to date involve an impingment plate to
slow down the gas velocity. this is really any surface perpendicular
to gas flow, so forces the gas to stop and go around it. combined
with some sort of volume expander, this works well.

previously i did this with a bell expander and plate on top. see

now i am starting to do this with a reasonably wide downpipe directed
into a curved surface "capped" over the end. see here:

this is really easy to make. i used a tank end cut off, and some nuts
to hold the end of the pipe about 3/4" out from the tank plate.

it burns well over a much wider range of gas flows that the previous method.

a cowling for air mixing on the way in could certainly be added too.
