Paul, find yourself just the right Masters or Ph.D Mechanical
Engineering student and you'd be golden. Better yet find one who's
doing work on turbomachinery, and frame it as an out-of-the-box
challenge for them in the very best tradition of Tom Sawyer ("I don't
know if you're smart enough to design a highly efficient very load head
fan that's in such a low Reynolds Number flow regime it'll make your
head spin!")
Of course if you get the wrong guy, or frame the question the wrong way,
you'll get something a lot more jet-engine-like than you are really
looking for...
