Dear Doctor Thomas B. Reed, we learn in gasifiers that wood moisture is tar producer. Is necessary to obtain highest temperature in chamber and lowest temperature in gas inlet to motors. Moisture content must be fifteen percent to obtain better results. In our opinion this is the key of fuel of gasifiers .

  Dear Paul and All:

I recently visited a dedicated and knowledegable forester/lumberman, Ed
Burton and Company, in Willetts, California and saw his amazing
collection of wood fuel gathering machines. In particular they have
developed a "Chunketter" that cuts branches shoots and branches up to
1-1/2" in diameter into *chunkettes* 2" long for feeding furnaces,
stoves and gasifiers. He is making us 1/2 ton for testing in our dryers
and gasifiers. (He has also developed dryers and machines for
harvesting larger trees and his son owns the lumber mill in Willetts.)

There is an amazing amount of small diameter biomass in the forests that
needs to be cleaned out for fire safety protection. Brush and
puckerbrush cutting is very labor intensive and so little practiced in
the US. He sees the insurance companies as one of the major driving
forces for some of this cleanup.

I see using the *chunkettes* as another driving force. They make a
wonderful fuel for small gasifiers. They are often dense, like mesquite
and manzanilla and full of hydrocarbons. They feed well. They stack
well. They dry easily.

Onward to making our stumbling blocks into stepping stones

Tom,

You were going to put me in touch with Ed Burton. My interest is in
the cutting
technology and would it be viable in SOME developing countries? What is the
machinery?

Please assist.
