[Gasification] Starting a new gasifier project - comments welcome

Hi everyone,

On an impulse, I bought a bunch of 12 inch and 3 inch stainless steel 
pipe. The price was hard to resist ($1.00 per lb). For the last few 
years, I've been interested in making a dual purpose, portable downdraft 
gasifier. I'd like to use it for both providing heat and fueling IC 
engines, depending on the need.

I'm leaning toward an Imbert but, I've seen some other interesting 
French designs (I can't remember specifics).

If scale matters and you have any advice (even if it means NOT doing 
it), I'd like to know your thoughts on this.

Unless I discover a way to turn lead into gold during my efforts, 
anything I make will be documented and shared freely under a general 
public license.
