Andrew, we found an tech paper in spanish of my friend Arturo Aeberhard professor of physics at UNNE in Resistencia Chaco province ,Argentine
Formulae is the same in any language and parts of text is very easy to electric translate. Structure is very didactical. Here the site

Hi Benjamin, I think I agree all your points but I'll paraphrase them
to see if we understand each other, I cannot extend you the courtesy
of replying in your lanquage as I only speak english, so you have
the better of me.

Do you mean surface area? Basically the more the better, that's why
firetubes often have corrugations and of course we see fins added in
car radiators to increase the surface exposed to the gas flow.

The temperature difference between the hot flue gases , the primary
current, and the fluid being warmed in the secondary circuit, often
referred to as delta T.

This is the ability of the material the heat exchanger is made from,
often metal, to transmit the thermal power from one side to the
other. In practise this is less limiting than the boundary layers
which can be treated and thermal resistances in series with the
metal.

Yes the surface texture affects the boundary layer, the static layer
of gas that stops the hot gases touching the surface of the heat
exchanger. BTW I had to look up "rugosity".
