[Gasification] Practical limitations on size

Hi..

Considering a non mobile household system: What is the factor that
determines the limit to the size of the gasifier chamber?. Obviously the
bigger it is the less you need to refill it. So bigger is better in this
respect. But sometimes we just need a small amount of gas to cook with yet
other times we want more for electricity + cooking + heating.

What I would like to know is the ability of these units to run at different
gas rates and the practical limits to this. We are considering a 100 litre
design but wonder if such a unit can be run slowly or not, and what happens
in terms of efficiency and to the composition of the gas etc if a larger
gasifier is run on idle for prolonged periods of time. What problems does
this create?

The fuel we have readily available is pine wood chips ( strips) that are
waste product from peeling pine logs to make fence posts. It is mostly
wood, but has some bark in it. We can get this delivered for US$6 per cubic
meter so represents an economically attractive energy source.

Any comments appreciated

Ian
