[Gasification] alternator speed

It does not. But you will save energy if the driving train is not required. Typical efficiencies of gear-boxes and related devices will range 0.5 - 5% depending on the amount of power and technology involved.

There is another good reason to keep the generator running at speeds close to the turbine rotation. Whenever the rotational speed is increased, the noise will increase as well. This is a major issue in big installations where the machines run almost continuously.

Why does the alternator have to be directly coupled to a turbine?
I used to build coil winding machines capable of 60,000 turns of wire per minute.
This speed was achieved by, timing belts and pulleys,
The high speed end of the belt and pulley system was extremely light weight, gradually getting heavier as it got slower, culminating with a 4kw 4 pole 50 cycle drive motor.

Which could easily trans figure into an 8 kw alternator driven by a turbine.?

When I worked for an "alternator" company, we had one customer that had
us test and certify to 30000 rpm. FWIW, most auto setups are belted up
about 3 to 1 so alt can be running at 15000 / 18000 rpm.

Duno what they're good for now, been retired for 13 yrs at that time I
wouldn't trust the oriental ones that high.
