 Ken,

 First off, I guess you are right, the stuff I would have consumed, is, "at
going rate" and what I "under base load", "Export"  is about a 2 to 1 (Give
or take).  (I need to export 2Kw to buy 1 Kw later, during the summer when I
shut down, and would "break-even" at that).

I could generate through the summer, and always turn a profit, however, then
the engine's life would be reduced to 2 years (25,000 miles is roughly 2-1/2
weeks of operation).

 Approx 744 hours to a month, 8760 to a year, if you said "60 miles an hour"
8760 x 60 =  525600 miles a year @ 1800 rpm so if one could get 1 million
miles on an engine, it would last 2 years...


As far as the generator, I'm Using a Woodward "L series" governor/throttle
body (http://www.woodward.com)  they are not cheap, but do meet the
regulation specs needed to do the job.

Accurate Phase.... Not required, see me privately about this...

 that is very interesting and obviously 25 years of progress on
what we used to do with two lightbulbs in series accross each phase.
One juggled the throttle until the moment when all the three pairs of bulbs
were out, then you threw the switch!
If they are prepared to let you burn your own power first and then their's
later
that means that you are getting the equivalent of full retail price for your
power! Which is Great!
However, I am guessing that what power you do manage to export will be paid
for by them at a much lower figure?
The next question is,  how do you govern your gas engine accurately enough
to keep exactly in phase
with the grid?  Surely there must be a bit of lag or lead to hold your
generator rather than your gas engine
accurately in phase??
