[Gasification] Push or pull

Hi Doug & listers, 

I'm working on the lines of Doug Williams  Fluidyne´s down draft DIY design,
as I suppose many of you have, and I've reached the point were I have to fix
the blower. As indicated, it can be push or pull, but when I start weighing

Pros & cons I get stuck. For starters, with the pull arrangement( blower
stuck to the gas exit ) I need a special vent with the motor separate from
the fan, which makes the whole thing more complicated & expensive , Or  cool
the gases, but that will mean higher static pressure from  my vent due to
longer pipe lengths for the cooling system. With the push arrangement which
makes things simpler, I run into the start up problem, how do I light the
damn thing? 
"Please some ideas, I know there are hundred other consequences, which I
can't even start to imagine.
