[Gasification] Gasification Digest, Vol 7, Issue 4 Green wood vs. dry wood in a corn or pellet stove?

Due to the increase in corn prices, I have begun
burning 11 inch mini logs, and other chunks of
"smallwood" in my stove, along with a minimal augur
feed of corn. I have not tried straight wood yet.

Is my stove a gasifier? The air is blown into the
firepot, travels up to the heat exchange tubes, and
down behind a baffle, to the exhaust pipe, which goes
straight out throuth the wall, like a dryer vent. The
cold outside air intake pipe is larger, and surrounds
the exhaust pipe.

I have not yet tried a straight woodfire, and do not
think, I would get as safe a combustion of of the
gases released from the green wood.

Would dry wood be preferable, or will the combustion
chamber heat nullify the green wood problem? I do not
have dry smallwood this year, but will store up a lot
for next year. I figure, I can save about a third of
my heating bill by adding wood to the chamber. More,
if I was around to watch the fire all the time.

When I cut up my dry wood, I plan to try a wood only
fire, with the augur off, and the chute shielded. I
have had to keep wood away from the delivery chute.

I would have gone with a wood stove, perhaps, but have
a real tricky overhang situation for a chimney on my
two story house. Corn has doubled in price to $3.62
per bushel this year. That is still way cheaper than
pellets or natural gas.
