Thank you very much for providing this link Fredrik, as others have said
it is inspiring to see so many people using so many systems. It shows
also that where the technology was established, and appropriate it has
never died out. I would also encourage anyone who could help with the
translation of text from that site, or other Finnish sites you might
recommend.
I didn't see any that resembled the Kalle charcoal system, did I
miss one? I would love to see some detailed pictures and measurements
of that system
As others have commented I also was impressed by the number of
trailer systems, this thinking makes a lot of sense to me. Take it or
leave it, hook it up to another vehicle, or stationary engine system
(might have to have a jigglier, but could probably just jiggle the whole
trailer).
One of my goals has been to build a trailer based system with a
smallish generator on it. It would be used to hybridize my friends
electric truck, allowing him to charge his batteries while on the road,
while allowing the generator to be run at the most economical speed.
These Chinese diesels seem too heavy for this? I think? If they are
running nicely at 500W and weigh 400lbs? but perhaps at higher speed
they would be better? I suspect I will have to use a higher hp to
weight engine to make it worth while. I was thinking of using a
Subaru horizontally opposed 4, and mounting low down on the trailer
under the floor. This I could also park next to my house and run the
dc gen into my wind turbine inverter selling any surplus electricity to
the gird while serving as a water preheater for my domestic water
(having a small hot water tanks on the trailer would be very handy, I
saw one on a steam tug, and asked the operator about it, he said they
were common, for providing hot water for cleanup, tea, ect.
Thanks again
Drew
