My understanding is that "Producer Gas" refers to the gas made in an 
updraft gasifier using coal as the fuel, and that it has a high content 
of tars. "Woodgas can be made with "updraft" (pyrolysis gases with high 
tar content) or "downdraft" (higher CO and H2, low tar)technologies.

Then there is the question of whether or not the char is gasified and 
its gas products being mixed with the pyrolysis gases, or whether the 
char is not consumed in the gasification process.
