[Gasification] jury rigging 3ph power.

Reg, Hi!
What size is the motor driving your comb rotor? There are several fixes
available which would enable say a 200watt 3ph motor motor to be driven
from single 1ph power. They mostly revolve around using another old 3ph
motor or a battery of motor start/run capacitors to be wired up as a kind of
transformer. If you have a spare motor or two then it costs very little. If
you have to buy capacitors then its not, in my part of the world anyway.
Sincerely Ken C.

We are satisfied with the Ankur gasifier, especially as we can now use
sugar cane bagasse as fuel. However, if you are going to buy one I
suggest you ask for the motor of the comb rotor be single phase. Our
unit has a 3 phase motor, but we only have 3 phase electricity when the
gas engine is running. In rural Colombia 3 phase connections from the
electricity companies are expensive and we like to use the gasifier to
operate as a gas producer to fill the reserve reservoirs. At the moment
when we do this the comb rotor (which scrapes out the ash) cannot
function and after 30 minutes or so, the gas quality deteriorates.

It is a pity the open-top throatless gasifier developed by Anil K.
Rajvanshi* has apparently not been followed up. I was very impressed
with this gasifier when I saw it in India 4 years ago. It would be
valuable to know the details of the design especially of the grate
assembly, I believe this would be more appropriate for small particle -
low density biomass fuels that we produce from sugar cane and forage
trees. If anyone on the list has this information, I would appreciate
having access to it.

Regards

Reg in Colombia
