[Gasification] OT --- Ethanol in non "flex-fuel" vehicles.

How on earth are you going to make homebrew ethanol for pennies? Wishfull
thinking or even perhaps, not thinking.
Having produced brewed and distilled ethanol, I know you don't have a
chance.

Yes, the MPG might be a bit less, but I doubt that it will be that much
less. However, that's really irrelevant. The real point of the experiment is
to see how much ethanol I can run. Because if I can run E85, or even E50,
then it is worthwhile to start making my own fuel and drive for pennies.
And considering that with the dinky little 2.4L engine in this truck,
there's no possibility of my running it on a gasifier, and I haven't been
able to figure out any real way to put a fit a diesel in it to run it on
veggie oil that seemed realistic cost wise -- ethanol is the only way to go
for this vehicle.
Besides which, I really don't believe the hype I see bandied about re the
supposed huge MPG drop when people try ethanol. I've been running E20 in
this truck and my wife's '96 RAV4 ever since the ethanol pumps opened up
here two years ago and we don't see all that much difference between that
and regular gas, although I've never done a scientific mileage test. But I'm
sure the people claiming "1/4 mpg less" when they run E10 haven't either,
like the guy on the bioenergy list who sez he drove thru Iowa and had to
burn E10. I'd say if you really got that much less mpg on E10, you better
get your car fixed, there's something seriously wrong with it.
