Please forgive me for being 2 weeks behind in reading the discussion posts.
And likewise I would like to ask forgiveness for an OT discussion but I want
to address Peter's comments on poultry processing offal.
Peter, we can build a very economical system to take the offal from the
poultry and fish processing industries locally. We already produce an excellent
soil amendment in the USA via fermentation.
The local farmers and environmentalists would thank you and it would be a
substantial revenue source.

At present ---
The tilapia raising uses mostly chicken wastes from chicken packaging plants.
However -- tilapia raising is in serious decline -- so huge amounts of
chicken wastes are again "piling" up.
Standard disposal of chicken slaughtering wastes here is spreading them out
by the dump truck load on a distant field -- and letting the "John Crow"
feast on them.
John Crow being the other name here for Vultures.
Tilapia raising went down due to "green" pressure!!
Art -- this slaughter house waste disposal issue is probably ideally suited
for biodigesters!!
The Mennonites have experimented with rendering the wastes of fat -- that
fat used as diesel fuel --
The rest would work fine for the biodigester --
And bones to bone meal after??
If anything -- a thermal gasifier would be just the ticket for supplying
the heat required for rendering -- and I believe dried chicken manure could
be that device's fuel??
I hope certain members of this list learn that through OT discussions
"only" do new applications of gasification arise??
How else -- eh??
OK -- moderns are so allergic to "change" --- so everything needs be
greatly categorized in perfect little boxes so their intellects do not get
upset.
So -- who is going to build the first chicken wastes plant??
We had postings in the past on the turkey wastes processing plants that
cost many millions to build -- and stunk up the hood so badly --
Great idea Art!!
The chicken manure gasifier could produce more than enough heat for
"rendering" -- chicken processing thermal needs (as in de-feathering at
least!!) -- plus I imagine -- supply all the electric power to run the
plant -- and even with some "export" amounts available.
Plus truly huge amounts of bio-methane!!
And remember -- bio methane can be easily purified -- concentrated -- by
simply compressing it into a water tank -- on the way to a storage cylinder.
Not super high pressures -- low -- such as 300 psi in existing propane tanks.
As it is not liquid phase -- one need not worry about it blowing up (so
much) when sun heated.
And though much less energy would be stored per tank -- enough would still
be there to cook -- maybe a week's worth of meals??
OK -- way off topic -- "topic" is WWII gasifiers ---
But there you have it anyway -- a rough flow diagram for something probably
a lot more "practical" than running a vehicle using a gasifier!!
My mistake is I keep thinking one of the major topics is "alternative"
energy and how to prepare to meet the eventual fossil fuel crunch -- and by
any means viable!
I keep forgetting this is mostly a list of "hobbyists" --
One can note that this flow diagram resulted due to an argument between
Harmon and I over tilapia!!
