Producer gas is a low speed fuel.  It takes longer to burn than 
gasoline and has less energy per unit volume than gasoline/air 
mixtures.  There are a lot of special purpose engines designed to 
burn stuff like that.  Arrow Engines (http://www.arrowengine.com/) is 
one vendor, but hold onto your wallet when you see the price.
