Hi Daniel,

You Ask:

> I haven't before seen the term "gas cooling" as you use it above, and
> can't really figure out what effect it is you are describing..... help?

The gasifier is a package plant, the concept of which allows it to be used
in either stationary, or mobile application. Useful in a rural situation.
The higher gas output of the mobile RPM, puts more demand on the gas cooling
system, because the temperature profile increases as more BTU's need
rejection as waste heat.

When you are testing the parameters of a cooling system, it's important to
establish how the design copes with the big swings that load change imposes
on the phenomena that takes place inside the cooling system components. I
only offered the gas temperature at the cooling input, as indication of the
other hidden down sides of operating an engine at higher RPM.
This development programme in Australia is to arrive at a design,
specifically for tropical conditions, so having proven the performance as a
power generation system, it's now being tested on the Ute.

In the first instance, I think they were less than prepared for the
experience. I would normally be involved providing instruction, and there
really are a lot of details that needs close attention to get it right. I
went on vacation at the wrong time!! Remember that it is also a lot of fun
to try things, and beggar the details.

Higher gears, and lower RPM only work on the flat, but when you start to
move through gears, the gasifier behaviour can fluctuate, if you are
forgetting to drive it, as well as the truck. Until you get the feel for
driving with energy that is made on demand, it can be a very bad experience
for the beginner, but I think the answer is probably a 24 speed gearbox (:-)
