Bob,
A feeder of this kind was used on a 100 MMBtuh gasifier in Canada before the
turn of the century. The "biosyn" gasifier was operated in a pressurized
mode to generate syngas intended for methanol production. The project was
terminated in 1988. The technology is marekted by Enerkem technologies. See
http://www.enerkem.com/
There is no infomration on their website on the feeder which was supplied by
Stake Technologies. I believe that Enerkem owns the feeder design.

Subject: [Gasification] Feed Screw question
Has anyone tried a feed screw with both axial and rotary motion, as on a
plastic injection molding machine? I imagine a screw that is a close fit
in a cylinder, using pure axial motion to feed material,
and then unscrewing the plunger as it backs up for the next stroke.
This could add some useful agitation.
Best,
Bob Stuart
