i doubt it is related to the space between the nozzles. it is more
likely simply the sealed top, which is well known to create a hot and
steamy fuel hopper. even with a monorator as greg runs.
even with the low moisture content of pellets, a full hopper is going
to generate a good deal of steam when the gasifier gets up to temp.
all that is going to hang out in the fuel hopper. and such will fluff
the pellets.
an open top stratified downdraft, like thomas is likely running, won't
do this. the open top prevents heat and steam build up, as it rises
out the top. this is likely why i didn't see it either, as i was
reporting on behavior in an open top stratified downdraft.
yes, pellets are very sensitive to moisture. i've ruined some left
out with a poorly sealed bag.
